The Major attraction of Patan Durbar Square

The Patan Durbar Square is situated in the central of the city of Lalitpur. It is one of Kathmandu’s three Durbar Squares, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Durbar Square is a Newar architectural masterpiece. The floor of the whole Durbar square is tiled with red brick, traditional Newari style. There are numerous temples and idols in the area. There is also a big bell alongside the main temple. Unfortunately, the earthquake in 2015 severely devastated the square. The palace is divided into three main courtyards. MulChowk, SundariChowk, and Keshav Narayan Chowk are the three, with chowk referring to a courtyard. In the heart of the Sundarichowk is a masterwork of stone building. Trishahiti is the name of a Royal bath. The palace is now open to the public as a museum. Some of the main attractions of Patan Durbar Square are:

Krishna Mandir: Krishna Mandir is a well-known temple devoted to Hindu God Krishna that was established in the 17th century. It is said that one night the King saw Lord Krishna and his consort Srimati Radha standing in front of the royal palace. He ordered a temple to be built on the same spot.  It is Nepal’s only temple with 21 shrines and is entirely made of stone.

Bhimsen Temple: Srinivasa Malla constructed Bhimsen Temple in 1680. It is known for its three golden windows that are interconnected. He was well-known for his bravery and strength in Mahabharat. He is traditionally worshiped as a god of trade in Newa. Tourists are not permitted inside the temple.

TalejuBhawani Temple: Taleju temple was built by Siddhi Narsingh Malla in 1640 and rebuilt by Srinivasa Malla in 1667 after a fire. Taleju Bhawani was the personal deity of the Malla kings. It’s a five-story structure with triple roofs. It is only open once a year, during the Dashain festival.

Vishwanath Temple: God Shiva is honored at the Vishwanath Temple. During the reign of Siddhi Narsingh Malla, it was constructed in 1627. The front gate of the temple is guarded by two stone elephants. The sculpture of a bull, Shiva’s chariot, is located on the other side of the temple.
